The kitchen bakes in batches and closes each one when it comes out, so every product page can print the date of the last batch rather than a shelf-life sticker written months ago. Myint Myint Khin has made traditional snacks in Mandalay for over a hundred years. The shop is best known for Htoe Mont — a rich sticky rice cake with nuts and raisins — and now makes more than a hundred handcrafted sweets alongside it.
Demand is seasonal in a way a supermarket’s is not. Around Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing the kitchen runs at its hardest, because traditional snacks are what families give each other at both.
